Dominic’s Day

Dominic Rodgers died in 2004 as a result of Carbon Monoxide poisoning that came from a neighbour’s faulty boiler. The carbon monoxide seeped through brickwork and killed him as he slept.

He would have turned 24 this year and 12th February 2018, will be the 14th anniversary of his death

This Saturday (3rd February) his two beloved football teams Huddersfield Town and Manchester United go head to head to play at Old Trafford.

Stacey Rodgers, Dominic’s mum says “Every year we look at different ways to get awareness out to people and we thought it would be fitting tribute to Dom to do something when Huddersfield play Manchester United”.

The Trust will be sending out messages which will appear on fans smartphones in and around Old Trafford stadium delivering CO safety messages and directing them to the Dominic Rodgers Trust website with a fitting message to all the fans.

Dwayne Wilkinson, aged 25 and a friend of Dominic says “Me and Dom was best friends growing up as we went to the same school and lived in the same area. One memory that always sticks with me is when on one winter day there was a knock on the door when my mum opened it there was Dom stood soaking wet in his full Man United goalkeeper kit and football in his hand asking if I was going round to the park to play football, we never went we ended up playing on the PlayStation all day and he stayed for dinner and tea.

The love he had for football was something special we shared together and had great times playing and watching football, He loved Man United and Huddersfield Town”.

The campaign has been supported by the Gas Distribution Networks (GDN’S).

Tom Bell, Head of Social Strategy at Northern Gas Networks and Chair of the Gas Distribution Networks CO Collaboration Forum, said:

“The gas distribution networks were delighted to support The Dominic Rodgers Trust when they approached us to support them with targeting football supporters with carbon monoxide (CO) messaging.

CO is often referred to as the silent killer as it’s colourless and odourless, and can kill in three-minutes. Annual boiler servicing and installing an audible alarm provides the best protection.

“We are keen to use as many methods as possible to cascade this essential information and will be working closely with Stacey Rodgers to see the benefits of texting safety messages to targeted audiences.”

Stacey said “we would like to thank the GDN’S for making this campaign happen as a tribute to Dominic, and will hopefully be targeting different audiences across the UK in the future”.
